Best Expert Lens 2008

ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-60mm 1:2.8-4.0 SWD
(24-120mm)* lens wins TIPA Award

London, 23 April 2008 – Each year, the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) honours products and technologies of distinction across a number of areas in the field of photography. This year, the Four Thirds-based ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-60mm 1:2.8-4.0 SWD
(24-120mm)* lens has won the prestigious “Best Expert Lens 2008” Award. TIPA is comprised of members from 30 independent publications spanning 13 European countries.

From extreme wide angles to tele shots, the ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-60mm 1:2.8-4.0 SWD (24-120mm)* lens has all bases covered. On top of powerful 5x zoom performance, the TIPA jury noted that: “With its fast aperture of 1:2.8-4.0, it’s suitable for use in all lighting conditions”. The lens’ rugged dust and splashproof build along with the inclusion of SWD technology – enabling the world’s fastest autofocusing speeds** – were further winning arguments cited by TIPA in choosing to bestow it with the “Best Expert Lens 2008” award. The judges concluded that the ZUIKO DIGITAL ED
12-60mm 1:2.8-4.0 SWD (24-120mm)* lens represented “a very attractive option for all Four Thirds users”.

*              Figure in brackets represents 35mm camera equivalent.
**             When used in combination with the Olympus E-3, as of October 2007.

• An HG (High-Grade) series 5x telephoto zoom lens with wide angle equivalent to a 24 mm lens on 35 mm film camera. With a maximum aperture of F2.8 at the widest angle of 12 mm, this lens boasts brightness that's at the top of the class among zoom lenses covering such a wide angle.

• The newly developed, original SWD system enables automatic focusing at ultra-high speed with ultra-high precision and silence. When combined with the forthcoming E-1 successor model, these lenses will achieve the world's fastest-class autofocusing. A mechanical manual focusing mechanism is also provided for comfortable manual focusing with accurate response.
